The Central Election Commission held a regular meeting today, April 12. The agenda of the meeting included video broadcasting of the voting process and experimental use of biometric identification tools for voting in some referendum precincts, early voting, accreditation of observers from foreign countries and international organizations and media representatives, listening to the chairpersons of some district commissions for preparing and holding the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting decided to hold early voting in polling stations of the Republic of Uzbekistan for citizens who cannot be at their place of residence on referendum day. According to this decision, early voting will start on April 19, 2023, and end on April 26, 2023, and the time of early voting in the referendum precincts was set from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and public holidays.

According to the CEC decision on the accreditation of observers from international organizations and foreign states participating in the referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a total of 30 observers were accredited from the CIS Observer Mission, Belgium, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and India.

Also, based on the requests received by the CEC, 102 representatives of local media and 11 representatives of foreign media were accredited. The total number of accredited local and foreign media representatives now stands at 496.

As per the agenda, the meeting was briefed by the chairpersons of the 1st Karakalpakstan, 7th Samarkand and 13th Kashkadarya district commissions on the work on preparation and holding the referendum at a high organizational level.

The meeting has taken relevant decisions on the agenda items.
