Today, 28 June Mongolia is holding elections for deputies to the Great State Khural (Parliament). 

Polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. local time.

CEC Chairman Z. Nizamkhodjaev and CEC member G. Rakhimova, participating in the international observation of the parliamentary elections in Mongolia, observed the opening of the polling station on that day, as well as the voting process at various polling stations in the central and peripheral districts of Ulaanbaatar.

Mongolia has a system of election observers comprising representatives of political parties and individual candidates, representatives of independent organizations and members of the media. The country is open to international observers.

In addition to representatives of Uzbekistan, the electoral authorities of Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Russia, Georgia and a number of international organizations are participating in the international observation.

Election observation is conducted by the A-WEB and the OSCE ODIHR Election Observation Mission (EOM), which includes 11 experts, 18 long-term observers and 250 short-term observers. M. Alimbaev, the Head of the CEC Press Service, represents Uzbekistan as a short-term observer.

In accordance with the Constitution, Mongolia is a parliamentary republic. The term of office of the State Great Khural of Mongolia is four years.

According to the legislation, the State Automated Voting System is used for parliamentary elections and all 2,187 polling stations are equipped with electronic ballot scanners.

The General Election Commission of Mongolia reports that out of the 2,238,360 voters on the voter lists, more than half are aged from 26 to 45 years.

16,352 voters applied to vote by portable ballot box at home with 5,247 in the capital and 11,105 in rural areas. Votes in portable sealed boxes were collected from 9:00 to 20:00 on June 27.

Portable ballot boxes were made available to voters who were unable to attend the polling station in person due to health reasons, those who were engaged in public mobilization in accordance with the Mobilization Law, those who were undergoing compulsory medical treatment under administrative order or arrested in connection with an infringement case, and others.

A total of 1,336 candidates are participating in the election, including 1,294 candidates from 19 political parties and two political coalitions, as well as 42 independent candidates. In general, there are approximately ten candidates per parliamentary mandate.

Uzbekistan’s CEC delegation also visited the Information Center of Mongolia’s State Election Commission.

A video wall was installed in the Information Centre for the purpose of displaying images captured from polling stations. The image is then updated to reflect the situation in all polling stations with access to the online broadcast. The GEC Information Centre provides preliminary data on the voting process at hourly intervals throughout the day.

Voting will continue until 22:00 local time. At the same time, in accordance with the law, voters who are in line to receive a ballot paper in the polling station's voting room may vote even after the end of the official voting time.
