A meeting with young people was held today at the Press Center of the Central Election Commission.

It was stated that the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and the local Councils (Kengashes), which will be held on October 27 this year, will be conducted under the conditions of strong parliamentarism, which is enshrined in the updated Constitution and strengthened powers of local representative bodies, and the essence and importance of the elections to the Legislative Chamber, which will be held for the first time on the basis of a mixed electoral system, was discussed.

According to the Constitution and the Election Code, citizens have the right to vote from the age of 18. In this year's elections, around 700,000 young people will be exercising their right to vote for the first time. This requires a further increase in advocacy work on the nature and importance of the electoral legislation among young people.

In addition, about 20,000 young people in our country are expressing their political activity by participating directly in the activities of the election commissions.

According to the national electoral law, candidates for the Legislative Chamber must be at least 25 years old and candidates for the local Councils (Kengashes) must be at least 21 years old.

It should be noted that the candidates are significantly younger than in previous elections. This year, more than three thousand candidates for deputies in the elections to the representative bodies of state power are young people.

At the meeting it was emphasized that voting and being elected is not only a constitutional right, but also a civic duty of young people.

In addition, the participants of the meeting were informed about the “E-Saylov” information system and its advantages as well as about important stages of the election campaign. The participants' opinions on the elections were listened to and their questions were answered in detail.

To improve the participants' knowledge and skills, the process of voting on Election Day was also explained in detail in a simulated polling station using practical examples.

Such events help young people who are voting for the first time to understand the nature and importance of elections in the life of the state and society.
