On October 24, a meeting of the Central Election Commission was held with the mission of observers for the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Councils (Kengashes), as well as with representatives of international organizations.
In the first half of the day, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Z. Nizamkhodjaev, met with the Special Co-ordinator and leader of the short-term OSCE observers, the Chair of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment, Azay Guliyev.
During the meeting, issues related to the preparation and holding of elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Councils (Kengashes) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which will take place on October 27, 2024, were discussed. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the recommendations from the reports and conclusions of international organizations on the results of election observation in Uzbekistan in national legislation and practice, as well as to improving the legal framework for elections.
In addition, detailed information was provided on the special features of this year's elections based on a mixed electoral system, on innovations such as the “E-Saylov” information system and its advantages, and on the conditions for women and people with disabilities.
In the afternoon, a meeting was held with the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Rajiv Kumar.
During the negotiations, it was noted that cooperation between the Central Election Commissions of Uzbekistan and India is being strengthened, and it was emphasized that the exchange of experience is also taking place within the framework of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA), which is currently chaired by the Election Commission of India.
A memorandum of cooperation between the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Election Commission of India was signed in order to further expand cooperation.
Within the framework of the memorandum, projects for the exchange of experience and professional development in the field of electoral procedures are to be improved.
Having familiarized themselves with the innovations in electoral legislation, the participants of the meeting positively assessed the ongoing work to improve electoral procedures and expressed confidence that the upcoming elections will be held at a high level of organization in accordance with generally accepted international democratic principles.
