DISCUSSED ISSUES OF BILATERAL COOPERATION

The Central Election Commission held a meeting with the leadership of the International Organization for Migration Representative Office in Uzbekistan on March 30, 2023. During the meeting, issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

In particular, the issue of further guaranteeing the electoral rights of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan residing or staying in foreign countries for work, study, medical treatment and other reasons was discussed.

Specifically, the meeting emphasized that during the elections and referendum, Precinct Commissions are established in the diplomatic and consular missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, large-scale awareness-raising about the elections and referendum is organized for our compatriots abroad, they are included and introduced to the list of voters, notifying them of the place and time of voting, and others.

The Chairperson of the Central Election Commission - Z. Nizamkhodjaev - underlined that strengthening cooperation with the International Organization for Migration in the process of elections and referendum is very important to increase the participation of Uzbek citizens of Uzbekistan abroad in the elections and referendum, ensure their electoral rights and fully implement the above measures.

 

​Zeynal Hajiyev, Sub-regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration for Central Asia and Head of Mission in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, pledged at the meeting to maintain partnership with the Central Election Commission and provide practical assistance.

Zeynal Hajiyev praised the Central Election Commission's desire to cooperate with the IOM Representative Office in Uzbekistan, saying that this is of great importance for ensuring the electoral rights of migrants, wide involvement of Uzbek citizens living abroad in democratic processes, including matters of public and state administration.

 

Zeynal Hajiyev also gave detailed information about the main activities of the IOM.

It is worth noting that in 2019 Uzbekistan became a full member of IOM, which leads to more intensive cooperation between our republic and this organization. This interaction is steadily increasing.

 

In 2020, a cooperation agreement was signed between Uzbekistan and the IOM. In 2021, a full-fledged representative office of the organization began operating in Tashkent.
