STRATEGY FOR ACHIEVING GENDER EQUALITY IN THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN UNTIL 2030

Chapter 3. Goals and objectives of the gender strategy

The main goal of the gender strategy is to ensure real equality of women and men regardless of race, nationality, language, religion, social origin, beliefs, personal and social status.

The main objectives of the gender strategy are the following:

to support equal participation of women and men in all spheres of life and activity of society, including politics, economy, law, culture, education, science and sports, to create equal opportunities for them to lead in decision-making;

increase the political activity of women, change negative attitudes towards their role in the society;

Chapter 4. Priorities for implementing the gender strategy

§ 1. Ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the exercise of electoral rights

In order to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men in the exercise of electoral rights, the following measures should be taken:

encourage the activities of political parties to involve women and men in the electoral process on an equal basis, to recommend women for leadership positions;

monitoring the provision of equal rights and opportunities for women and men by political parties in the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Jogorku Kenesh of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, local Kengashes of People’s Deputies;

changing negative attitudes formed in the society towards women by increasing their political activism;

to analyze the full observance of the right of women and men to elect and be elected to representative bodies of state power;

Ensuring equality of women and men in the formation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, regional, district, city, constituency, precinct election commissions for elections and referenda.

Chapter 5. Expected result from the implementation of the gender strategy

The following results are expected to be achieved by fulfilling the tasks set within the framework of the Gender Strategy:

expand the practice of appointing women to senior positions in higher and lower level government bodies;

women will be widely involved in the electoral process through the encouragement of the political parties;
