Yesterday, July 9, the early presidential elections were held in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held on the basis of international criteria and standards, in full compliance with our national electoral legislation, with universally recognized democratic principles such as openness, transparency, freedom and justice.

The presidential election between the four political parties and their candidates is a vivid proof of the strengthening of freedom and democracy in Uzbekistan!

In recent years, there have been serious changes in the national electoral legislation of our country. As international experts note, the practice of election administration in Uzbekistan has continuously improved and the quality of elections has risen to a new, higher level.

At the same time, the early presidential elections held for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, their organization in a relatively short period of time and their holding at the level of international requirements proved the high potential and capacity of the country’s electoral system and the relevant organizations.

The current presidential elections were held on the basis of the updated Constitution, which was adopted in the national referendum on April 30 this year.

New articles have been included in our country’s updated Constitution that aim to more comprehensively guarantee the right of citizens to vote and be elected, and to improve the nationwide electoral system.

I would like to particularly emphasize that citizens in all regions of Uzbekistan actively participated in the elections and freely voted for the candidate of their choice. On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all voting citizens of our country for their active participation in the elections.

The presidential election was observed by a total of about 800 international observers, including those from fifteen international organizations and 47 countries, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Organization of Turkic States, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and 1,400 representatives of local and foreign media who observed and reported on the event.

In addition, 53,677 representatives of political parties and citizens'self-governing bodies participated in and directly observed the elections.

Of the 19,593,838 citizens registered in the list of voters, including our compatriots who voted abroad, 15,651,405 voters participated in the election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This is 79, 88 percent of the total number of voters.

Among them, the highest turnout was in the Jizzak region with 85.28 percent.

The lowest turnout was in the city of Tashkent with 72.97 percent.

According to preliminary data, all ballots have been counted in all polling stations where the early presidential election was held.

The candidates nominated by the political parties for the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan received the following number of votes:

Ulugbek Ilyasovich INOYATOV – candidate from the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan - 629,116 votes or 4.02 percent;

Robakhon Anvarovna MAKHMUDOVA - candidate from the Social Democratic Party Adolat of Uzbekistan - 693,634 votes or 4.43 percent;

Shavkat Mirziyoyev - candidate from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - from the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan - 13,625,55 votes or 87, 5 percent;

Abdushukur Khudoykulovich Khamzaev - candidate from the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan - 585,711 votes or 3.74 percent.

The number of ballots recognized as invalid was 117,889, or 0.76 percent.

According to the Election Code, the candidate who received more than 50 percent of the votes of the electors who participated in the election is considered elected president.

Based on these data, we would like to inform you that Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev, the candidate of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, received the most votes - 87.5 percent - and was elected President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On behalf of the Central Election Commission, I would like to warmly congratulate Shavkat Miromonovich on his convincing victory!

There were no reports or information about cases of gross violations of the law during the presidential elections.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Central Election Commission, all District and Precinct Election Commissions, ministries, departments, organizations and other officials who contributed to the preparation of the presidential elections of the Republic of Uzbekistan and conducted them at a high organizational level in accordance with our national legislation and generally accepted democratic principles.

In particular, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the media representatives, journalists, and bloggers who took great care in reporting the elections in an impartial and timely manner and widely disseminating high-quality analytical information among the voters.

Most importantly, we express our gratitude to the great Uzbek people who actively participated in the elections, demonstrating their high legal and political culture.
